IDENTIFY DD CARRIERS

Testing is the only practical way to know.

Developmental Duplication

Developmental Duplication (DD) (also referred to as polymelia) is a genetic condition that impacts specific lines of Angus and Angus-influenced cattle. To be affected, an animal must inherit two copies of a recessive gene, one from each parent.

It is believed that many affected animals are absorbed in utero or are aborted early in gestation. Those that do survive birth typically have additional limbs (usually extra front legs), originating from the neck or shoulder region.

Test for DD with added confidence.

  • Determine DD-carrier and DD-free animals—at Zoetis we test carriers twice for added assurance that such animal are dependably identified
  • Help eliminate DD affected animals and minimize the frequency of the recessive gene over time
  • Customers are advised to check with their respective breed association for recognized laboratory service providers, testing policies and procedures
