Intravenous (I.V.) Fluid Therapy is a standard of care for anesthetic and surgical procedures and for most hospitalized patients including traumatized patients. I.V. Fluid Therapy addresses hydration and volume therapy as well as electrolyte imbalance and deficiencies in blood constituents. Perioperative IV Fluid Therapy is generally focused on optimizing peripheral perfusion and tissue oxygenation, preventing hypovolemia by maintaining or restoring intravascular fluid volume. With venous access already established and fluids in process, there is a direct path for immediate administration of medications as needed.
