Addition of diagnostics line enhances offerings for veterinarians
Following integration of the Synbiotics business, Pfizer Animal Health now providing the trusted line of WITNESS® tests for dogs and cats.
MADISON, New Jersey, July 11, 2011 – With the integration of the Synbiotics Inc. business complete, Pfizer Animal Health is now offering a suite of demonstrated diagnostics tests to small animal veterinarians, as well as a broad selection of diagnostic tests for university and commercial laboratories and reproductive services for dog breeders and veterinarians.
“For the first time, Pfizer Animal Health is able to provide products and services that address the three tenets of animal care viewed as critically important by veterinarians: prevention, treatment and diagnosis,” said Mary Craig, DVM and Director of business transformation at Pfizer Animal Health. “That represents a significant step forward in our ability to serve veterinarians and the animals in their care.”
Pfizer Animal Health announced an agreement late in 2010 to acquire Synbiotics Inc., a leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of immunodiagnostic tests for companion and food production animals. The acquisition was completed in December 2010 and the integration of the business was announced to Pfizer Animal Health customers on July 5, 2011, when Pfizer Animal Health formally assumed the customer service and shipping of all Synbiotics products. As part of the integration, legacy Synbiotics executive Paul Hays has joined Pfizer Animal Health as vice president of diagnostics.
The WITNESS® suite of diagnostic tests is now being offered by Pfizer Animal Health. The WITNESS tests are accurate and provide rapid results; require no snapping; feature room-temperature storability; are easy to interpret; and are backed by Pfizer Animal Health. Specifically:
- The WITNESS® HW heartworm test for dogs and cats is accurate, affordable and requires no time wasted waiting to snap.
- The WITNESS® FeLV feline leukemia virus test is highly accurate, sensitive, and specific for testing cats or kittens at any age.
- The WITNESS® CPV canine parvovirus test is extremely convenient and easy to use.
Craig noted that the integration of the diagnostics business is consistent with the company’s goal to be a complete solutions provider to veterinarians.
“Veterinarians have expressed a desire for additional choice and diversity of suppliers in the diagnostics space,” Craig said. “Our goal is to provide our veterinarian customers with products and services that are unmatched in the industry – while continuing to find new ways to support their business and treatment mission.”
