Pfizer Animal Genetics to Support State Angus Associations

Portion of HD 50K sales to be donated to each breeder’s state association

MADISON, N.J. — Sept. 1, 2011 — Pfizer Animal Genetics will donate $10 from the proceeds of each High-Density 50K (HD 50K) test purchased this fall through Angus Genetics, Inc.® (AGI), a subsidiary of the American Angus Association® , to participating state Angus Associations.

“We at Pfizer Animal Genetics are committed to partnering with the American Angus Association and its affiliates to continue to advance the breed,” says Scott Bormann, Pfizer Animal Genetics, business director. “By donating portions of the sales of HD 50K back to the participating state associations, we hope to support the state and local programs that help make the association stronger. This gives breeders a chance to tap into the power of HD 50K and support their local organizations at the same time.”

The sales rebate will be automatically applied to all DNA samples submitted to AGI for HD 50K testing during the promotion period, and funds will be sent directly to the participating states. The donation is intended to be used toward each state association’s marketing, education or junior programs. To participate, state associations must complete an agreement with Pfizer Animal Genetics. All DNA samples must be submitted by Oct. 31 to qualify.

Genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) powered by HD 50K provide the most dependable option in genetic evaluation. HD 50K is the beef industry’s first and only commercially available high-density DNA panel with more than 54,000 markers and information related to 14 economically important traits such as calving ease; growth and efficiency; maternal performance; and carcass yield and quality. Angus breeders also can gain parentage verification at no additional charge, or as a stand-alone test, with DNA samples submitted to AGI for HD 50K testing.

Bormann says Angus breeders and their customers can use this powerful information for more informed decisions about young Angus seedstock for traits that are important to their individual operations.

“Depending on the trait, adding HD 50K information has been shown to change the EPD values and their accuracies as much as would be seen from up to 20 progeny records,” he says. “That’s more than a lifetime of natural calf production for a female and a good portion of a first calf crop for a bull — but it’s now available on young animals before the availability of progeny information. And HD 50K offers information about traits such as feed efficiency and tenderness that are difficult and expensive to measure until later in the animal’s life.”

For more information about the state donation program, breeders should contact their association regional manager or Pfizer Animal Genetics representative; or call 816-383-5100 or 877-BEEF-DNA. Visit or for more information about GE-EPDs powered by HD 50K.
