Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store and Pfizer Animal Health Partner to Donate to Local FFA Chapters
More Than $2.38 Million Donated Nationally Through the Program Since 2008
MADISON, N.J. — Dec. 6, 2010 — This spring, Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store, Melrose, Minn., made significant contributions to several area FFA chapters as well as to the Minnesota State FFA Foundation.
“FFA is a very noble cause, representing everything that we do,” says David Tomsche, DVM, Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store. “These are the people that we are doing business with now and will be in 20 years so it was only appropriate to donate to their cause.”
Participating veterinary clinics were given the option to donate a 1 percent rebate on all Pfizer Animal Health U.S. Cattle products to either FFA chapter(s) of their choice or to the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Foundation/Pfizer Veterinary Student Scholarships. This spring alone, Pfizer Animal Health and its retail partners across the country contributed more than $830,000 to help support FFA programs and fund the AABP Foundation/Pfizer Veterinary Student Scholarships. Since its inception in 2008, the total amount donated through the Pfizer Animal Health FFA/AABP support program is more than $2.38 million.
“Local programs have used the valuable support provided by Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store in a number of ways to meet the individual chapter’s needs,” says Val Aarsvold, executive director of the Minnesota FFA Foundation. “Computers have been purchased to allow students to work on their supervised agricultural experience programs. In other chapters, they have used the funds to send students to leadership camps and conferences.”
While local schools continue to face budget challenges, outside support has been an integral part of keeping extracurricular activities thriving.
“Agricultural education instructors are working hard to develop partnerships to provide resources that will benefit their students,” Aarsvold says. “The partnership of Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store through the Pfizer Animal Health program has been vital to these chapters.”
Many of the staff members at Stearns Veterinary Outlet Store are former FFA members themselves, which provides them with a solid understanding of how important it is to support not only their clients, but also the upcoming agriculture leaders in the area.
“We live in a small rural community and agriculture surrounds us all,” Dr. Tomsche says. “Donating to FFA simply makes our small part of the world a better place.”
More than 1,100 veterinarians, animal health suppliers and dealers from across the country participated in the program, which offered a rebate on Pfizer Animal Health cattle products purchased during the first part of 2010. Participating partners were able to direct the funds to any local FFA chapter or the AABP Foundation Pfizer Veterinary Student Scholarship Program.
“FFA encourages young people interested in agriculture and the concept of raising food in one form or another,” Dr. Tomsche says. “FFA members are the future employee for our business. FFA is working to create students with great communication skills as well as teaching valuable life lessons, using agriculture as a venue to develop young professionals.”
The program is part of Pfizer Animal Health’s Commitment to Veterinarians, an initiative supporting veterinarians through training and education, research and development, and investment in the future of the veterinary profession.
