Veterinary Students invited to Apply For The 2014 Zoetis Scholarship Program

Partnership with American Veterinary Medical Foundation will award approximately $700,000 to students in all areas of veterinary medicine

FLORHAM PARK, NJ (October 21, 2013) — For the fifth consecutive year, Zoetis and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) invite second- and third-year students of veterinary medicine to apply for the Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program. In an effort to help alleviate some of the burden of student debt, about 350 scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to assist students across various disciplines in veterinary medicine.

To apply for the Zoetis Student Scholarship Program, students can visit www.vetstudentconnect.com or www.avmf.org/zoetis from October 1 to December 2, 2013. In addition to traditional selection criteria of academic excellence and financial need, the scholarship will focus on meeting ongoing needs of the veterinary profession such as diversity, sustainability, leadership and fostering diverse careers paths in veterinary medicine.

“We’re looking for outstanding veterinary students to embrace the diversity of our changing world, as well as the health and research needs of our society. That’s what this scholarship is about,” said Vanessa Mariani, Director of Academic and Professional Affairs, Zoetis. “The past four years of this program have been a huge success. We awarded scholarships to students from a myriad of socioeconomic backgrounds, studying across a diverse array of species and veterinary disciplines.”

Since the launch of the scholarship program in the fall of 2010, more than $2.7 million in scholarship funding has been awarded to more than 1,100 exceptional veterinary students.
In 2014, Zoetis will provide approximately $700,000 in student scholarships to eligible students in colleges of veterinary medicine in the U.S. and the Caribbean.  Scholarships will be awarded to students with career interests in all areas, including food animal medicine, small animal clinical medicine, research, government services, public health, organized veterinary medicine, among others. Award eligibility is subject to the review and confirmation by individual schools and the AVMF Grants and Awards Committee.

“The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is very pleased once again to be partnering with Zoetis to significantly impact veterinary student education,” said Michael Cathey, Executive Director, AVMF.  “It is through these partnerships that the Foundation is able to impact not only the current medical care of the nation's animals but also the future of medical care for animals."

The scholarship program is a part of Zoetis’ Commitment to Veterinarians™ platform—which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.  The scholarship complements a number of other Zoetis programs supporting the veterinary profession, including millions invested in universities, industry education and training, scholarships, and allied organizations each year.
