Zoetis Announces Winner Of Annual Diversity & Inclusion Award

Broad Ripple Animal Clinic and Wellness Center receives this year’s honor
for demonstrating exceptional practice values

Madison, N.J., May 7, 2013 – Zoetis Inc., formerly the animal health business unit of Pfizer Inc., today announced that Broad Ripple Animal Clinic & Wellness Center (BRAC) of Indianapolis is the 2013 recipient of the company’s Customer Diversity & Inclusion Award. BRAC earned this recognition for its Principles of Mutual Respect, as well as for creating an on-site day care for employees’ children.

“Zoetis is pleased to recognize BRAC as an example of inclusion and devotion to communication and diversity in the workplace,” said Steve Leder, vice president of the U.S. Companion Animal Division. “The Diversity & Inclusion Award was developed to recognize organizations such as BRAC that took the important steps to provide an inclusive environment for employees because such action translates into a positive environment for their clients as well.”

Brenda Tassava, CVPM, CVJ, director of operations at BRAC, came to the practice 10 years ago and noticed the need for improvement in workplace communication and unity. “I realized we had nothing in place when it came to engagement,” Tassava said. “I did some research and came across a university program with a system of values for communication.”

From that system, Tassava developed the Principles of Mutual Respect to encourage all colleagues at BRAC to work together in an environment that supports shared values, embraces diversity and emphasizes open communication and addressing issues directly.

“The award from Zoetis means a great deal to our practice because it provides validation that our inclusion practices can make positive changes to workplace environment,” Tassava said. “Our entire team had input into our Principles, and this process has since eliminated the undercurrents that were present before.”

The Principles of Mutual Respect are available for other veterinary practices to use via a downloadable template at DVM 360.

BRAC was also recognized for its new on-site day care facility. The clinic opened the center to address a situation in which employees were leaving the practice because they could not find day care for their small children.

The Zoetis Customer Diversity & Inclusion Award, presented annually, was developed through the company’s Diversity & Inclusion Council. The Council comprises colleagues from all U.S. business units who are dedicated to educating and improving diversity for the company and its customers. The Zoetis Cattle, Pork and Equine business units also present awards to recognize outstanding diversity and inclusion programs in their respective areas. Pfizer Animal Health D&I Council was recognized 3 years in a row as one of the top 25 Diversity & Inclusion Councils by the Association of Diversity Councils.
