Zoetis Invites Veterinary Students to Apply for the 2019 Early Veterinary Bovine or Equine Externship Programs

Application period opens in December for first- and second-year veterinary students

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – Nov. 19, 2018 – Zoetis is inviting first- and second-year veterinary students from participating veterinary colleges to apply for the 2019 Early Veterinary Bovine or Equine Externship Programs.  These programs create unique opportunities for students to work side-by-side with a hosting clinic to gain real-world practice experience.  The application period begins Dec. 3, 2018 and closes Jan. 17, 2019, and interested students can visit www.vetvance.com/opportunities to apply.

“As part of our Commitment to Veterinarians, each year Zoetis partners with 30 colleges of veterinary medicine and sponsors 100 or more veterinary students through its Bovine and Equine Externship Programs. Our objective is to support veterinary students who have a keen interest in exploring opportunities and challenges associated with Cattle or Equine practices and to assist these young professionals in confidently defining their career path,” said Dr. Doug Braun, director, U.S. Customer Loyalty.  “This ‘hands on’ training in medicine, first-hand interaction with clients, and initial insights into business management are all highlights that have been noted from previously sponsored externs.”

Each of these programs will last four weeks over the summer semester and will be hosted by a Veterinary Practice or Producer.  Zoetis offers each of the students a $2,000 stipend to offset travel, lodging, and other expenses that may be incurred while participating in these programs.  Previous exposure to bovine or equine practices are not required and Zoetis encourages all eligible students interested in equine or bovine medicine to apply.

Now in its tenth year, these Externship Programs operate as part of the Zoetis Commitment to Veterinarians™, a platform created to support leadership and diversity among future veterinarians, while also helping to offset the significant costs associated with a veterinary education.  Candidates selected for 2019 externships will be notified in February 2019.
