Zoetis-Sponsored Therapy Dog Receives 2013 American Humane Association Hero Dog Award

Hallmark Channel to broadcast awards ceremony October 30

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Oct. 23, 2013 – Zoetis, Inc., a former business unit of Pfizer Inc., is proud to be a sponsor of the annual American Humane Association (AHA) “American Hero Dog” awards and congratulates Elle, a pit bull from North Carolina, who took home top honors this year from among the eight finalists. Elle represented the Zoetis-sponsored Therapy Dog category. The finalists will be recognized on a Hallmark Channel broadcast Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central.

“Like Zoetis, the AHA appreciates the benefits of the human-animal bond and supports the important work veterinarians do for the health and wellness of our companion animals,” said J. Michael McFarland, DVM, DABVP and group director of Companion Animal Veterinary Operations for Zoetis.

Elle’s accomplishments include teaching children in her area about dog safety and starting a therapy dog reading program called "Tail Wagging Tales," to help children enjoy books and improve their reading skills. She reaches all ages through regular visits to an elementary school, a middle school, and a retirement home. Elle’s charity partner, Hand in Paw, will receive a $6,500 donation to further their work. The public cast more than a million votes to determine the eight finalists from a group of 141 dogs nominated for being “ordinary dogs doing extraordinary things.”

“We are pleased to partner with AHA to support the American Hero Dog awards and excited that this year’s top recipient came from the category sponsored by our company,” Dr. McFarland added. “All of us at Zoetis applaud Elle and the other seven finalists for their contribution to the health, happiness and welfare of their human families – and of their communities.”
