Uniquely formulated buffered H2SO4 antimicrobial wash — an effective and economical poultry processing aid

Amplon™ is a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-approved antimicrobial, acidifier and processing aid for poultry processors. Its unique blend of H2SO4 and buffering salts helps provide the antimicrobial benefits of a strong acid while minimizing adverse impact to personnel and equipment.

  • Ingredients: Amplon is a blend of water, sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate (Food Chemicals Codex (FCC)-grade materials).


    Appearance Clear, colorless to light amber liquid
    pH 1.4 to 1.6 (1:100 v/v dilution)
    Specific gravity at 25ºC 1.36
    Solubility Very soluble in water

  • Use: Amplon is comprised of FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) ingredients. It is approved by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service for use as an antimicrobial, acidifier and processing aid in water used in poultry processing.1

    Handling: Please use the following instructions for safe handling:

    • Use with adequate ventilation.
    • Avoid breathing vapor or mist.
    • Minimize contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
    • When handling, use appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Chemical incompatibility: Avoid contact with strong alkaline material such as caustics and strong reducing agents. Do not mix with halogenated (chlorine) compounds.

    Material compatibility: Equipment, such as cabinet sprayers and dip tanks, should be compatible with corrosive chemicals (sulfuric acid).

    Metals: Once Amplon has been diluted to working pH levels, it is recommended for use with:

    • Stainless steel types 304 and 316
    • Alloy-20®
    • Hastelloy® C-22®
    • Tantalum

    Plastics: Amplon, in both concentrate and diluted forms, is recommended for use with:

    • Polypropylene (PP)
    • Polyethylene (PE)
    • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
    • Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC)
    • Teflon® (PTFE)
    • Viton®
    • Santoprene®
    • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF — Kynar®, Hylar®, Solef®)
  • Storage Recommendations:

    • Store in a closed building/warehouse to help protect from environmental elements.
    • Store tightly covered away from heat, acids, bases and oxidizers.
    • Store at temperature 50°C/122°F.
    • Store in closed containers in well-ventilated areas when not in use.

    Packaging: Amplon is available in the following sizes:

    • 15-gallon poly drum
    • 55-gallon poly drum
    • 260-gallon tote (IBC)
    • 4,000-gallon bulk trailer (lined)
