Target Pain

Control pain at the site of inflammation and the dorsal horn of the spinal cord

Target Pain Target Pain
  • RIMADYL® (carprofen) Injectable: One dose provides 24 hours of pain relief for dogs

    • Delivering anti-inflammatory effects at the surgical site, interfering with peripheral sensitization2,4,8
    • Decreasing the pain signal in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, interfering with central sensitization1-4,8,9
  • Active at the site of inflammation

Preoperative administration of RIMADYL Injectable could lead to higher tissue concentration at the surgical site due to:2

    • Effects of anesthetic drugs on drug distribution
    • Effects of inflammation on protein concentration at the surgical site
    • High protein-binding capacity of RIMADYL

Carprofen concentration at the surgical site during the initiation of the inflammatory response is one explanation for why preoperative administration provides preemptive analgesia.

  • Providing substantial analgesia

RIMADYL Injectable administered at 4.4 mg/kg (2.0 mg/lb) provides analgesia as early as 2 hours after administration and lasts for 24 hours after soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.10-11

In clinical studies, the level of analgesia provided by RIMADYL Injectable was better than pethidine (meperidine) or buprenorphine and similar to morphine for dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy.12-15 RIMADYL Injectable also decreases swelling at the surgical site, a benefit that is unique to NSAIDs.14

Because RIMADYL Injectable is bioequivalent to the oral formulation of RIMADYL, administration of RIMADYL Injectable can be followed 24 hours later by either RIMADYL Chewable or Caplet for continuous pain management at home.

RIMADYL complements the analgesia of other analgesics, including opioids and alpha-2 agonists such as DEXDOMITOR® (dexmedetomidine).
