CARING FOR ANIMALS STARTS WITH CARING FOR YOU

Working in the veterinary profession is meaningful and rewarding, full of both opportunities and challenges.

But when you’ve dedicated your days to caring for animals, it can be easy to place your wellbeing at the bottom of the list.

We’re committed to providing resources to help you and your colleagues get the tools, information and support you need to take proactive steps to care for your
wellbeing so you can flourish both personally and professionally.

PLEDGE WELLNESS

As an industry, it is imperative that we start to focus more on our physical and mental health, and there are steps you can take in your daily activities and ways of thinking that really can make a difference:

  • Relate – connect with people. Develop and maintain secure and supportive relationships.
  • Give – do things for others. Help in ways that are fulfilling, but not overwhelming.
  • Take notice – be mindful. Be attentive to the present moment intentionally, with acceptance and without judgement.
  • Challenge unhelpful thinking. Be aware of your thoughts and search for alternative explanations.

GET HELP

As medical professionals, sometimes it’s difficult for us to recognize when we are having problems, but everyone experiences
distress from time to time. Always remember that you are not alone – one in four people will experience some kind of mental ill-health
at some time in their life.
